I remember, in the subsidized days, traveling by train was both hard and enjoyable. Struggling from buying tickets, waiting for the train to be half a day late is common, to taking the train ‘sitting’ across Vietnam for thousands of kilometers, and the seats are wooden chairs…
It is interesting, because traveling by train at that time witnessed many strange things, so much so that, in 1983, after a train trip from Quy Nhon to Hanoi, I wrote a rather long poem, titled “Hanoi”. from my side”. I remember, in that poem, there were two verses comparing the two fruits of the South and the North:
“Hanoi why are you absent-minded with the scent of banana and pepper on a yellow background dotted with an impossible picture
Why do you like the mediocre egg of the South?”

Chicken eggs are considered a super food |

I wrote those two verses because I saw on the train crossing Vietnam from the South to the North, how precious the large baskets containing all the “Southern” eggs are treasured. It turns out that in the 80s of the 20th century, Hanoians were very fond of chicken eggs, a fruit that grows wild in the gardens of the southern provinces only for children to eat for fun, eat to help… hungry. . The chicken egg, also known as the leki-ma, we Central people call it oma, even though it is included in the masterpiece song of musician Nguyen Duc Toan “Grateful to Ms. Vo Thi Sau”: “Lekima blossom season/in my hometown, the red land/”, but everyone in the South knows, that chicken egg (or le-ki-ma) is not sold in the South, and is only for fun, meaning it has no value in the market. However, for some reason, at that time, Hanoians loved to eat this chicken egg, and its price in the market was more expensive than bananas and eggs.
A few decades later, chicken eggs are still piled up in Hanoi wholesale markets, and the price of copper is still only 15-20 thousand/kg, as cheap as vegetables. Vietnamese and Hanoians now have a wide variety of fruits to choose from, both domestic and foreign, from cheap to expensive, and the egg, although still sold, has lost its popularity. in the heart of the buyer.
But I was very surprised when I just learned, on Amazon online shopping site, chicken eggs are for sale in powder form, priced at about 1.5 million VND/kg. Although ground and dried into powder, it takes a few kilograms of fresh fruit to make a kilogram of dry powder, but the price is so much that many people who know this egg must be surprised.
To find out, in many Western countries, this fruit is considered a superfood thanks to its high content of vitamin B3, beta-carotene, iron and fiber.
Now, the trend of eating for health is a very popular trend, not only in the West. In Vietnam, many consumers also try to find a variety of fruits, nuts, etc. that are good for health and healthy to buy and use, ready to buy at high prices. So the new chicken egg is on the Amazon store shelf, so it can change its life like that.
It can be said proudly, the fruit that was considered “mediocre” before, is now a “noble” fruit. Not only in the red soils of the Southeast region, there are many lekima trees, but in many places, from the South to the Central region, the lekima trees grow spontaneously as a kind of tree. wild. There was a time, even in my garden in Mo Duc’s hometown, I had to cut down the egg tree that was giving very wrong fruit, because I simply thought that its fruit could not be sold, and it occupied the land in vain.
Now that the egg has become a precious fruit, its “wild tree record” is a reliable guarantee of its cleanliness. When ground and dried into a powder, egg powder can be processed into many healthy dishes.
If the agricultural and commercial agencies are quick to find opportunities, the “chicken egg of the South” can gallantly “go abroad”, calmly go to the Amazon, and at such a price, it will earn a lot of money. attract both manufacturers and processors, to become a product of Vietnamese origin, jostling on the shelves of the prestigious Amazon store.
