(PLO)- It is expected that in August, the General Administration of Customs of China will visit the field to inspect the growing areas and packing facilities of fresh coconuts that need to be exported to serve as a basis for the signing of the Protocol between the two countries.
The Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) has just sent a document to the local Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development to inform that this agency has received a notice from the General Department of Customs of China about going to field inspection for the growing areas and packing facilities of fresh coconuts wishing to export Vietnam.
The purpose of this inspection is to complete a pest risk analysis for fresh coconuts, which will serve as the basis for the signing of the Protocol between the two countries.
The Plant Protection Department said that the inspection is expected to take place in mid-August. The Chinese side will conduct the inspection in two parallel forms: online inspection combined with field inspection, along with documents.

The main inspection content of the General Administration of Customs of China is the system of control and prevention of harmful organisms on coconut at the planting areas and packing facilities; process of harvesting, transporting and packaging coconut for export.
In order to prepare well for the inspection, the Plant Protection Department suggested that the local Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development send technical staff to participate in guiding and supporting the growing areas and packing facilities of fresh coconuts to participate in the online inspection. At the same time, prepare documents and technical documents related to the management and prevention of harmful organisms at the request of your side.
Currently, Vietnam is ranked 7th in coconut production worldwide. Coconut growing area is about more than 180,000 hectares, mainly in the Mekong Delta, especially Ben Tre, which is considered the capital of coconut. In addition, coconut is also grown in some central coastal provinces.
In 2023, the coconut industry strives to export coconut and coconut products to reach over 1 billion USD.
China is a market with a huge demand for coconut imports, but currently the country’s coconut production only meets 10% of the market demand.
