(PLO)- The lack of gasoline in Con Dao took place at the end of June, causing people to panic and worry, so they called to complain to the hotline.
On July 10, the People’s Committee of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province held a meeting to hear about the situation of petroleum supply in Con Dao district before information from people reflected through the hotline. Specifically, people reported that some gas stations in Con Dao district announced to temporarily stop selling, people wanted to buy but the shortage of gasoline still occurred for many days.
Lack of gasoline because a company temporarily stopped selling, changing supply units
At the meeting, Con Dao district informed that the interruption of petroleum supply took place around the end of June, 2023. However, by the beginning of July, the situation had basically stabilized.
According to the district, at the time of people’s complaints, there were two petrol stations in the area, namely the petrol station belonging to DVDL Hoang Hieu Co., Ltd and Thu Tam petrol station belonging to Thu Tam Gas Private Enterprise.
Both businesses get their goods from Duong Dong Group Joint Stock Company. However, in June 2023, Hoang Hieu Company carried out procedures to switch to another petroleum supplier. During that process, Hoang Hieu Company did not import more petrol.
On June 21, District Doi Petroleum Store (under Hoang Hieu Company) ran out of gasoline, so it temporarily stopped supplying gasoline. Particularly, oil products are still supplied normally.

Because of the above reason, people flocked to buy gasoline at Thu Tam store, increasing sales by 80% compared to normal. Meanwhile, the reserve of gasoline at Thu Tam store can only be maintained until June 28.
The oil tanker of the supplier will not arrive on the island until July 2. Therefore, this has led to the panic of the people and caused untrue speculations…
Con Dao district affirmed that it still maintains the supply of gasoline for daily consumption and does not allow petrol shops to choose customers to serve.
However, because the amount of gasoline from the reserve of goods for emergency situations is limited, only a certain amount is balanced to regulate the market according to the limit and cannot be sold according to the needs of the people.

During the time of shortage of gasoline, two petrol stations in the district alternately maintain the sale of gasoline to serve people.
The district worked directly with Duong Dong company to speed up the schedule of transporting gasoline to the island earlier. Duong Dong Company sent cargo ships out to Con Dao on the afternoon of July 1. The district has actively contacted and reported to the Department of Industry and Trade and asked for solutions to support regulation of petroleum suppliers for Con Dao. From the morning of July 2, Con Dao district has ensured the supply of gasoline according to the needs of people and tourists.
Need a long-term solution to ensure gasoline and oil for Con Dao
The Department of Industry and Trade also informed that Con Dao district has no petroleum storage. Petrol stations only have a number of tanks with a certain capacity and the warehouse of the district military command to serve security and defense.
As a result, stores do not have the ability to stock up for long-term supply. In case the supplier fails to promptly transport petroleum to the island, there will be a local shortage.
In the rainy season, transporting petroleum to the island is even more difficult. In addition to the lack of gasoline affecting people’s daily life, it also does not guarantee the source of oil for the operation of the An Hoi power plant. Therefore, there is a risk of not guaranteeing electricity supply to Con Dao.
