Plastic is a great invention of mankind that makes life easier and more convenient. Born in the second half of the 19th century, plastic has solved hundreds of world problems in terms of consumption. However, like every other invention, plastic is also dual. Besides bringing great benefits to human life, plastic waste is becoming an urgent and alarming problem.
Due to fast consumption habits, every year Vietnam generates thousands of tons of plastic waste into the environment. However, because of the convenience, the consumption of plastic still takes place regularly. Plastic is not bad, but the abuse of plastic products and the way to use plastic is a matter of concern. Young people began to make efforts to bring a different view to the problem of plastic waste, along with calling for changing habits and responsible plastic consumption.

“Zero Waste” is a lifestyle that young people are aiming to reduce plastic waste into the environment. The main elements that make up this lifestyle are Reduce – Reuse – Recycle – Refuse – Rot. Specific activities of this lifestyle are to limit single-use plastic, reuse plastic bags, plastic bottles, etc.
Starting as a trend, “Zero Waste” has now become the new standard for civilized and environmentally-loving residents. Responding to the “Zero Waste” lifestyle, many environmental clubs have organized activities and events of practical significance that are of great interest and response from young people, contributing to raising consumer consciousness towards the sustainable use of plastic.

In production activities, businesses also launched incentive programs to stimulate green living behavior, focusing on researching and producing packaging from recycled materials as a commitment to environmental responsibility.

For Pepsi, plastic waste is a big challenge for the planet and a top priority to tackle. Pepsi believes “We can create a world where packaging is no longer waste.” According to Pepsi, the commitment to a green environment is not a promise in the distant future but must be fulfilled immediately.
On the way to realize the parent corporation’s vision, last April, Pepsi and Suntory PepsiCo first launched 330ml Pepsi product in packaging made from 100% recycled plastic (rPET) in Vietnam market.

Recycled Plastic (rPET) is created by collecting used PET bottles, sorting, pulverizing and then cleaning and restoring into qualified recycled plastic particles to return to the new life of a drinking water bottle. In advanced countries, the use of packaging products from recycled plastic (rPET) has become a new consumption trend.

Pepsi packaging from environmentally friendly recycled plastic, has undergone rigorous processing and testing. Pepsi products in newly upgraded packaging do not lose convenience, still retain the characteristic flavor and spirit of the product as well as bring true green values to life.
Speaking at the product launch press conference, Mr. Jahanzeb Khan, General Director of Suntory PepsiCo said:“With the vision of “Growing for Good” and innovative thinking to serve Vietnamese consumers, our company’s product chain is constantly changing and creating to meet international quality but always in line with the needs and tastes of Vietnamese consumers. We are always aware of our role and responsibility in solving problems related to the environment, always improving products and production processes to be more environmentally friendly.”

Recycled plastic bottles (rPET) are a remarkable effort of Pepsi in protecting the living environment of all mankind. It is known that Germany, Poland, Romania, Greece and Spain have switched to using Pepsi products with packaging made 100% from recycled plastic by 2021; while France, Great Britain, Belgium and Luxembourg are expected to be completed in 2022.
