At Thach Da markets (Go Vap), Base markets (Go Vap), and Pham Van Hai markets (Tan Binh), the prices of mangoes fell by more than half compared to the same period last year. For example, Australian mangoes, at Thach Da market, grade 1 Australian Cam Ranh mangoes are sold for 15,000-17,000 VND/kg, grade 2 mangoes that are smaller, cracked or cracked are priced from 9,000-13,000 VND/kg.
Ms. Thanh, a small fruit trader at Thach Da market, said that compared to the beginning of last year’s season, the price of Australian mangoes is less than half. “If at the beginning of last year’s season, the retail price of Australian mangoes reached 50,000-60,000 VND/kg, this year the output of mangoes in the market is a lot, but the selling price is not much.”

Not only that, the price of sand chu, which was previously priced at 50,000-60,000 VND/kg, is now reduced to 15,000-30,000 VND/kg depending on the place of sale. With varieties of ke mango, Taiwanese green mango, are sold full of mobile carts as well as market areas with cheap prices from 15,000 VND / 2 kg, ie only 7,500 VND / kg. With the common varieties of sand mango, also known as Easup mango (Dak Lak) are sold for 2,000-5,000 VND/kg.
According to small traders, the supply is abundant, but the demand is reduced due to the epidemic season, people tighten their spending, plus many restaurants, hotels, schools, eateries … are closed, do not import mango. Along with that, due to the impact of the disease, the fruit could not be exported to other countries, only consumed domestically, so the price of mangoes was reduced.
Recently, a report by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province showed that the price of mangoes is currently plummeting to only 3,000-12,000 VND per kilogram (depending on the type). This is also a record decrease in the past 3 years.
Sharing about this issue, Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association admitted that the amount of fruit in the country is in the harvest season, but because of the epidemic, it is difficult to output, especially to China. Not only that, according to Mr. Nguyen, domestic mangoes have had a good season, having difficulty exporting to China, and now have to compete with Cambodian mangoes, when China allows the country to officially export up to 500,000 tons of mangoes.
According to Mr. Nguyen, to avoid falling fruit prices, the state needs to take measures to support farmers, such as speeding up processing, facilitating trade promotion, etc. Or it needs to strengthen domestic consumption measures such as stimulating procurement, exempting or reducing road costs for units transporting agricultural products.
Putting mango on the e-commerce floor (e-commerce) Recently, the Shopee e-commerce platform has just signed a cooperation agreement with the People’s Committee of Son La province, the Trade Promotion Department, to support bringing Yen Chau mango eggs (Son La) on the e-commerce floor for distribution to consumers across the country. According to Mr. Nguyen Trong Trung, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial Farmers’ Association, in the face of the situation of Cam Ranh Australian mango falling to 2,000-8,000 VND/kg, the association has just deployed to put Australian Cam Ranh mangoes on Viettelpost’s e-commerce platform voso.vn, selling for 16,000 VND/kg. |
