


(PLO)- National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said that the potential and opportunities for cooperation between Vietnam and Uruguay are great.
On the morning of April 27 at local time, at the Headquarters of the National Assembly of Uruguay, President of the Uruguayan Senate Beatriz Argimon and Speaker of the House of Representatives Sebastian Andujar hosted a solemn welcome ceremony for National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and a high-ranking delegation of the National Assembly of Vietnam.
Immediately after the welcoming ceremony, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue held talks with Senate President Beatriz Argimon and Speaker of the House of Representatives Sebastian Andujar.

At the meeting, National Assembly Chairwoman Vuong Dinh Hue thanked the Uruguayan National Assembly for the respectful, cordial and thoughtful welcome, emphasizing that this is Vietnam’s highest-level visit to Uruguay in the past 30 years since the two countries established diplomatic relations and took place on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The visit demonstrates Vietnam’s importance to strengthening ties with traditional friends in Latin America and its desire to promote comprehensive cooperation with Uruguay across all channels, levels and fields, contributing to promoting the Vietnam-Uruquay cooperation relationship as a model in South-South relations.
Appreciating Uruguay’s position and role in the South American region and in international organizations, the National Assembly Chairwoman said that the potential and opportunities for cooperation between the two countries are huge.
The President of the National Assembly proposed that in the coming time the two countries coordinate to organize meaningful and practical activities to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, restore and promote the exchange of high-level delegations and ministries and branches, and effectively organize bilateral cooperation mechanisms; strengthen ties and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
The National Assembly Chairwoman was pleased to see that the economic-trade relationship between the two countries has maintained its growth momentum and has a lot of room and potential for cooperation. In the coming time, the two sides need to continue promoting trade relations within bilateral and multilateral frameworks, striving to increase the total trade turnover of the two countries.
The National Assembly Chairman emphasized that Vietnam is ready to act as a bridge for investment and trade activities of Uruguay and Southeast Asian countries with nearly 700 million people.
The National Assembly Chairwoman suggested Uruguay and members of the South American Common Market (MERCOSUR) soon complete internal consultation procedures and soon announce the launch of the Vietnam-MERCOSUR Free Trade Agreement in order to continue promoting cooperation between the two organizations ASEAN-MERCOSUR and between the two regions of Southeast Asia and South America.
This is the second time the National Assembly of Vietnam has signed a Cooperation Agreement with both the Senate and the House of Representatives of a country, after Australia. Along with the bilateral cooperation between parliamentary bodies, the two countries can strengthen cooperation, exchange of information and coordination in regional and international multilateral parliamentary forums.
At the same time, the fact that the two sides established the Friendship Parliamentary Assembly on this occasion is an important event, contributing to the effective implementation of parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, as well as promoting the strengthening of other cooperation activities for the development of bilateral relations.
National Assembly Chairwoman Vuong Dinh Hue and the Uruguayan National Assembly leader agreed in the coming time that the two sides will continue to strengthen contacts and exchange delegations between the leaders of the National Assembly, agencies of the National Assembly, the Friendship Parliamentary Assembly and the National Assembly deputies of the two countries, to exchange experiences in law-making and perfecting institutions for each country’s development and parliamentary activities.
Strengthening the role of the legislature in promoting bilateral relations, and creating favorable conditions to support the business community as well as the people of the two countries to live, study, invest and do business in each country.
Continue to promote the coordination mechanism at multilateral parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU); support each other’s positions on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Also on the afternoon of April 27 (local time) at the Parliament headquarters of the South American Common Market (Mercosur) in the capital Montevideo, National Assembly Chairwoman Vuong Dinh Hue held talks with President of the Parliament of the South American Common Market (PARLASUR) Gustavo Penadés and PARLASUR Vice-Presidents Celso Russomanno, Tomas Bittar and Cecilia Britto.
. In addition, National Assembly Chairwoman Vuong Dinh Hue, high-ranking delegation of the National Assembly of Vietnam, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Uruguay Sebastian Andujar, Uruguayan parliamentarians and many Uruguayan officials and friends attended the special art program GALA CULTURAL to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and East Uruguay (1993-2023).
The program is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Within the framework of the official visit to the Republic of Eastern Uruguay, on the morning of April 27 (local time), in the capital Montevideo, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue had a meeting with President Luis Lacalle Pou.

At the meeting, the leaders of the two countries expressed their pleasure that the Vietnam-Uruguay relationship continued to develop positively, the cooperation mechanisms were maintained effectively; The two sides maintain close coordination and exchanges at important international forums and multilateral organizations around the world, especially at the United Nations, the World Trade Organization (OMC), the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC).
The two sides also agreed to jointly protect the principles and values of multilateralism in the context that the world continues to experience complicated and unpredictable developments and consequences due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as geopolitical and armed conflicts in some regions of the world.

. Following the meeting with Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pou, National Assembly Chairwoman Vuong Dinh Hue received acting Foreign Minister Nicolas Albertoni at the headquarters of the Uruguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The National Assembly Chairwoman witnessed Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai and Uruguayan Deputy Foreign Minister Nicolas Albertoni signing the Minutes of the Third Session of the Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation, Trade and Investment between Vietnam and Uruguay.
Previously, on April 14, the Third Session of the Joint Committee on Economic, Trade and Investment Cooperation between Vietnam and Uruguay was held online in Hanoi and Montevideo.
