The meeting, visit and information exchange took place at Da Phuoc Waste Treatment Complex (Binh Chanh, HCMC). It is known that this is one of the first trips to visit US businesses in Vietnam by the US Consul General – Ms. Susan M. Burns. More specifically, this is also the first working visit of Ms. Susan M. Burns for Vietnamese-American enterprises investing in Vietnam (since taking the position of Consul General).
Accompanying Mrs. Susan M. Burns was Mr. Stephen Jacques, Chief Commercial Counselor; Mr. Alex Tatsis, Chief Economic Counselor; Mr. Jay Daniliuk, Economic Counselor and Adam Moussawi, Intern Economic Counselor.

Welcoming and discussing with the delegation, Ms. Huynh Lan Phuong, Deputy General Director of VWS and Mr. Kevin Moore, Managing Director of VWS said: The Waste Treatment Complex has operated and received and treated garbage. for HCMC for about 16 years. On average, each day receives from 5,000-7,000 tons of garbage and continuously for many years always ensures labor safety, no environmental risks.

Talking with the US Consulate General’s delegation via Zoom, from the US, Mr. David Duong, General Director of VWS said that he always aspires to bring more and more opportunities for investment and trade cooperation to the US and Vietnam. Thereby, contributing to building a prosperous country, improving the life and environment of the Vietnamese people.

In response, Consul General Burns said that transparency in investment is a very necessary issue for US businesses when investing and doing business in Vietnam. She also agrees with Mr. David Duong that many US companies want to invest here. Therefore, through such a visit, she wants to have a more comprehensive view of the situation, difficulties and problems of US businesses investing in Ho Chi Minh City in particular. She said it was very interesting to come to Ho Chi Minh City to work and saw a number of key issues that need to be discussed with Vietnam in the near future. And, if this difficulty can be solved, US businesses as well as trade and investment relations with Vietnam will be even better. She hopes to meet Mr. David Duong in Ho Chi Minh City as soon as possible.
After visiting the Leachate Treatment Plant and the Garbage Sorting and Recycling Workshop, Ms. Consul General said: I am very impressed with this project. However, I am also very sad to see the recycling sorting line “covered with blankets”, not operating. She added, I am a very fierce person in environmental protection, especially in regards to recycling and plastic waste. Therefore, I will note this issue and will send a letter to the Ho Chi Minh City government to support and solve VWS and Mr. David Duong.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. David Duong announced that the visits of investment delegations and the Mayor of Oakland will come to Ho Chi Minh City and Ho Chi Minh City. Da Nang in late March or early April here. The delegation will recommend a number of typical projects to improve living and trade for Vietnam. It is known that TP. Oakland and City.
