On July 13, the People’s Court of Ha Tinh province held a first-instance trial and sentenced Nguyen Duc Hung (31 years old, residing in Ky Phuong ward, Ky Anh town, Ha Tinh province) for 5 years and 6 months in prison for making, storing, distributing or propagating information, documents and items aimed at opposing the State of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
In addition, defendant Hung is also under house arrest for five years from the date of completing the sentence.
According to the indictment of the People’s Procuracy of Ha Tinh province, from 2016 to 2021, Hung set up accounts “Facebook Nguyen Duc Hung Sbr” and “Facebook Nguyen Duc Hung” along with a number of other social networking accounts. Since then, Hung has regularly compiled, posted, and shared many articles, photos, and video clips on social media accounts. These contents propagate, distort, defame the government, insult the leaders of the Party and State, slander and distort the situation of the country and the Party’s leadership line; spreading reactionary ideas, spreading fabricated news, sowing suspicion, causing psychological warfare, confusion and discontent among the masses…
In addition, in July 2021, Hung also joined a secret group on Facebook to oppose the Party and State. Hung actively called and introduced more people to join the above-mentioned secret group.
At the trial, defendant Nguyen Duc Hung admitted the crime, sincerely declared, repented, and asked the Trial Panel to consider reducing the penalty to soon return to the society and family. family and become useful citizens.
The jury found that defendant Hung’s behavior directly affected the implementation of the Party’s guidelines and policies and the State’s laws, the strength of the people’s administration, and the division of the great unity bloc. ethnic minorities, reduce the people’s trust in the Party and State, have the risk of causing insecurity and order in the country, need to be severely punished.
After considering the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the first-instance trial panel pronounced the sentence above.
