Information from the Department of Construction of Da Nang said that the eastern coastal area of the city with My Khe and My An outlet gates is invested with a wastewater collection system in the form of separate rainwater drainage based on the natural terrain.
Wastewater is collected in the dry season, when the rainy season or the time of heavy rain, wastewater and rainwater mix. The reason is that the development of trade in services in this area has increased very quickly, since 2017 began to appear overcrowded, causing wastewater to be dumped into the sea.
At the scene, Mr. Quang said that there are two wastewater collection systems that exist in parallel. Each system has its own limitations, does not meet the requirements set forth.
Mr. Quang asked the Party Committee of the City People’s Committee to direct and evaluate the shortcomings of each system in rainy conditions.
According to Mr. Quang, in the immediate future, the city must require business establishments to connect the wastewater drainage system to the new wastewater collection system to reduce the discharge into the sea.
Da Nang Urban Environment Company must dredge the culvert area to minimize the residues that lead to the discharge of wastewater into the sea when it rains heavily.

Mr. Quang also suggested that the Party Committee of the City People’s Committee solve two problems. The first is to focus on immediate solutions, to minimize the push of waste into the pipeline leading to overflow into the sea.
Secondly, the city has to build a project to seal the discharge gates to the sea, pouring rain water towards the Han River. At the same time, the city will review all pumping stations to recalculate the capacity and ways to ensure that when there is heavy rain, there is enough capacity to pump forced return to the direction of the Han River.
“The Party Committee of the City People’s Committee must calculate the location of the outlet into the Han River in accordance with the general planning of the city. This project needs to be submitted to the City Council for decision at the end of this year so that we can ensure the goal of keeping My Khe beach clean,” Quang emphasized.
Earlier on April 19, Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee Nguyen Van Quang inspected a number of coastal discharge gates, speeding up the progress of two projects, the sewer line to collect wastewater on Nguyen Tat Thanh Street and the project to improve the water environment in the East of Son Tra district.
Sharing with the press at that time, Mr. Quang said: “The recent incidents of wastewater spilling into the sea have been found in the city. At this time, two very important projects are being completed. In this time of transition, the incident also has an objective factor. Hopefully, the two projects will be put into operation soon to overcome and do well in environmental work.”
