(PLO)- The Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City said that there are many reasons why the new Mien Dong Bus Station is empty, including the lack of complete infrastructure around the station.
On June 24, during a meeting on the operation of the new Eastern Bus Station (BXM), Mr. Vo Khanh Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City, said that there are many reasons why this station is empty. However, in order to remove it, the Department of Transport has coordinated with relevant units to enhance transportation and strengthen public transport connections to bring efficiency to the wharf.

Only 47 passengers/day
At the meeting, Mr. Do Ngoc Hai, Head of Road Transport Management Department, Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City, admitted that the new BOM has not been effective and is empty of customers. Currently, on average, the wharf has only 47 passengers a day, a decrease of 95% compared to before the epidemic (previously it was 706 passengers).
However, the reduction of commuter passengers is also a common situation, including both new and old CBU. Specifically, in 2022, an average of only 9,000 passengers will cross the two terminals, down 70% compared to previous years.
Mr. Vo Khanh Hung, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, said that there are many reasons why the new BOM is empty. The first reason is that the infrastructure connecting to the wharf has not been completed. For example, metro line 1 (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien) has not been completed, it is expected to be put into operation by the end of 2023. Accordingly, it takes 1-2 years for new traffic projects to be completed, the connection to this wharf is effective.
In addition, the status of violations of “parachute”, “toad wharf” in the area of the old MCO to the Binh Phuoc intersection still exists, so passengers are not really interested in the new berth.
Another reason, from 2020 to now, the COVID-19 epidemic has limited the travel of passengers, so routes and people also restrict travel. Not only that, now low-cost airlines have developed, so most long-distance routes are chosen to travel by air.
Mr. Hung also informed about the difficulties of the Saigon Transport Mechanical Corporation – One Member Limited Liability Company (SAMCO) in the process of implementing the new construction materials project. Because at present, the legal procedures related to land at the new wharf have not been completed.
The Department of Transport has requested that the service quality of the new MOC must be better, serve the best passengers and be better than the old BCM.
The service quality of the new berth must be better than the old wharf
Vo Khanh Hung affirmed: “This does not mean that we do nothing, or have to have metro or other completed projects to operate effectively.”
According to Mr. Hung, the Department of Transport has proposed the following tasks: The Department of Transport will work with SAMCO to organize transportation to make the new BOM operate effectively. First, strengthen bus transport connected to the new MOC. Currently, there are four bus routes that have been connected, but the HCMC Department of Transport requires these routes to be picked up and dropped off at the wharf so that people can travel conveniently.
In addition, the department recommends these bus routes for people to transport goods (under 10 kg) so that people can easily travel. At the same time, there will be more bus routes connecting from the old BOM to the new station. Right next week, the Center for Public Passenger Transport must immediately report on the plan to implement this problem, “- Mr. Hung shared.
Mr. Hung also said that in the near future Vinbus also plans to put two more electric bus lines into the new BOM. However, Vinbus also has some work to do such as completing the charging station, so the implementation progress may have a certain delay.
In particular, the Department of Transport has requested that the service quality of the new MOC must be better, serve the best passengers and be better than the old MOC.
Mr. Vo Khanh Hung said: The Department of Transport also has many projects and works that need to be done. For example, the project to strengthen traffic connection to the metro line. In order to get from the metro to the new BMX, people can travel more conveniently.
In addition, complete the bus routes for the metro line to combine with the metro line to increase passenger transport for the whole line and the new MOC. These things are being tried by the department to speed up progress to catch up with the metro line, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.•
Since the beginning of the year, there have been 183 cases of “parachute” violations.
For the “parachute” and “toad dock” activities, Mr. Pham Khanh Hung proposed that from next week, to strengthen a team of traffic inspectors, to coordinate with the traffic police force to increase patrols from the old MOC to the Binh Phuoc intersection.
“Only in the first six months of the year, the traffic inspectors made 183 violations of “parachute”, “toad wharf”. However, this result is still not enough, the relevant units must organize the installation of cameras to cold punish the violating units “- Mr. Hung emphasized.
