(PLO)- Stable prices help domestic and imported seafood have good purchasing power. Businesses also have high expectations for revenue during Tet 2023.
In the past few weeks, the purchasing power of seafood, especially imported seafood at the Royal Seafood store chain in Ho Chi Minh City, has begun to increase thanks to the effects of Christmas and New Year holidays approaching. adjacent.
“Although the purchasing power of Tet this year will not be as good as last year, the market still has loyal customers with high-end seafood products and new and unique products” – Mr. Tran Van Truong, General Director of Hoang Gia Seafood International Trade Co., Ltd. said.

Purchasing power increases, businesses wait for huge orders
According to Mr. Truong, at Hoang Gia Seafood, there are more Tet orders now, with orders worth more than 20 million VND. In which, King Grab, abalone, Australian lobster, cotton lobster… are the most purchased items.
In particular, this year’s Tet holiday, for the first time, enterprises imported golden heliotrope snails from Canada with an output of more than one ton. After only a few days of offering, the store has sold out to both wholesale and retail customers.
At the Seafood Island store chain, with the proportion of retail customers accounting for 90%, the unit is focusing on two main product groups for the Tet holiday, which are fresh products such as king crab, Alaska lobster, snail… and group gifts are frozen products, pre-packaged goods.
“Although purchasing power is basically still slow, since December Seafood Island has recorded a growth of 10 -15%. At this time, Tet orders have started in the racing season but are still mainly in orders of about 8-9 million. In the last 5 days alone, we have sold 50-60 king crabs, I think this number is quite good compared to the economic situation this year. We also expect that in the next 1-2 weeks, the party season will have huge orders of 80 million-100 million like every year,” he said.
Tet seafood prices do not increase, many items decrease
According to businesses, part of the reason that the purchasing power of seafood, especially imported seafood is still good, is thanks to the stable price.
“The price of seafood during Tet will usually have slight fluctuations, but this year the general level remains the same compared to last month, even some items decreased by 10% -15%.
This is due to many reasons such as the price of foreign seafood falling thanks to free trade agreements, the freight rates of ships, aircraft, gasoline and the dollar price has cooled down…” – Mr. Truong shared.
Agreeing with this opinion, Mr. Behzad Babakhani, Consul General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City said that, in particular about Canadian seafood, thanks to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) that Vietnam has and Canada as a member caused the tariffs to be cut. At the same time, the procedural issues and processes are also simpler, so that the price of seafood when returning to Vietnam is almost equivalent to the domestic market.
“Not to mention the last year the Canadian dollar depreciated against the US dollar, which also gave goods to Vietnam many price advantages,” added Mr. Behazad Babakhani.
In fact, the price of imported seafood at seafood chains is decreasing significantly. Live Alaska lobster, imported from Canada, the price ranged from 1.1 million VND to 1.5 million VND/kg, the previous price was more than 1.7 million VND; Korean abalone is about 1.3 million VND, original price is from 1.7 million VND….

However, there are still some items with individual price increases of up to 20% – 30% such as lobster, abalone because some exporting countries are having blizzards, fishermen cannot catch, so the A decrease in supply leads to an increase in selling prices.

Canadian golden heliotrope snail weighs 2 kg, priced at 2.5 million VND/kg, selling well during Tet holiday
(PLO)- With a weight of 1.3 kg/head, the Canadian golden heliotrope snail sells for nearly 2.5 million VND/kg, more than twice as high as other types of heliotrope.
