At the recent ThaiFex fair in Thailand, Vinamit Joint Stock Company introduced to visitors a new dish: baked sweet potato (by machine). After trying the product, many customers wanted Vinamit to be able to supply baked sweet potatoes in vacuum packaging that could only be heated in a microwave oven or used immediately after unpacking.
The trend of turning a traditional lunch with main dishes into a modern lunch using a lot of snacks is a global trend, and has appeared in Vietnam. In Ho Chi Minh City, many employees eat lunches on the spot with… bags of nuts, of course, many imported nuts with high nutritional value, and… drink water. That’s it, lunch is over.
Vinamit Company has properly picked up the Asian people’s preference for baked sweet potatoes, and they are ready to “mass produce” this packaged product, still ensuring the pure taste, but very convenient for customers. Not only “canned” baked sweet potatoes, but “smelly” baked sweet potatoes will also become a very “hot” main dish in the near future. Young start-ups should be interested in this traditional product, and after surveying customers, can launch it into the market to serve consumers, in a variety of packaging and forms.
I just hope to see one day soon, my hometown baked potato will take the throne, becoming a favorite dish of Vietnamese and foreigners, right on the territory of Vietnam and also outside the border of Vietnam. At that time, the farmer in my hometown will reduce rice cultivation and increase sweet potato cultivation, when this potato dish brings good income.
It is a very realistic wish, not a fantasy.
